Announcing my main writing project

I haven't been writing blog posts lately because I spent the month of August frantically searching for a place to live here in Marseille. That accomplished, I have more recently turned to working as much as I am able on my fiction writing. This is a brief examination of those efforts.

My ongoing novel project has been progressing quite well of late. It is a comprehensive effort with many facets, and I am trying to juggle all of them in order to make reasonable progress before the start of school in a couple of weeks.

One part of this project is a web application, designed to enhance and complement the book narrative. The nature of the story demands several presentations, which is why I am building this site, and also taking the time to learn LaTeX and typeset the book myself. It is a total creation, one that I wish to have control over from start to finish.

However, I like to be transparent about what I'm working on, how, and when. One thing I have struggled with as a writer is simply writing, consistently and without succumbing to superficial habits and anxieties. I have learned that this is detrimental not only to my own production as an artist, but also affects how I see the world. When I am not writing, I am not in the world as fully as I can or ought to be. Whence the creation of this blog as well.

This post serves to experimentally introduce a weekly, or maybe bi-weekly once the semester begins, report on how much writing I'm doing, and on what topics. Naturally, it will favor the discussion of the novel itself, but if I write a blog post or school paper of general interest, perhaps I will mention it as well.

Something like this was provisionally included on the web app for the book itself, but I decided that it was a little too didactic for that purpose, and is better suited here on this page, where the report generation can be easily built into the publishing of a static site like this.

Writing Report

As this project is conceived, in accordance with its name, against the spirit of "false gravity" that Nietzsche identified in the works of many of his contemporary philosophers and intellectuals, it is worth mentioning that this aspect of it, documented below, should be viewed accordingly. It is done in a 'pataphysical spirit, that is, in a state of exception.

As I develop my writing habits more, this page will be updated, and new reports will be published, probably providing more detailed and possibly entirely different information. Who knows?
